The Garrett Highlands Pipes & Drums is a traditional Scottish military marching band, formed in 1979 by Fred A. Thayer, Charles P. Evans, and John Grant . Pipe Majors have included Thayer, Jerry McGee and presently, Paul Browning. It is proudly affiliated with the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.
Band members share many of the same interests and pastimes related to Scottish Highland traditions and enjoy participating in many regional events in the tri-state area surrounding
Garrett County, MD.
GHPD is a teaching band, interested in new pipers, drummers, and auxiliary members (flags and banners). It meets March - December on Monday nights, 7:00 (6:00 for lessons), at the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, 31 S. 3rd Street, Oakland, MD.
Among the many appearances, the band plays at the annual Autumn Glory festival in Oakland, MD.
